  1. When the original Pleasant Company started (True fact: Pleasant Frautschi, who started it, was a neighbor of mine!), and the original dolls were released, for many young kids in our area (Middleton, WI, and across Madison) the dolls/beds were prohibitively expensive. I had ALL of the patterns for the clothes, and at holidays/birthdays, folks who hit me up to “make” Josefina, or Molly, etc, for younger girls who just wanted a doll to love, but didn’t care about the brand. Joann Fabrics sold half dozen 18″ dolls with different ethnic “looks.” I’d go to the AG website and print off pages of the wardrobes, then back to Joann for fabrics that were as close as I could find, and sew the wardrobes. My husband, a master carpenter, would fashion beds, and I’d sew bedding. That was SUCH a fun ministry – we made many little girls’ birthdays/holidays!! I remember one year, I got a request for a little girl to go as Kitt Kittridge for Halloween – but she wanted her 18″ doll to go as a witch! That was another fun one!! Thank you so much for the great patterns!!! And, for the trip down memory lane!!!
