German Pancake Breakfast Idea

I love layering tasks to make my morning easier and this German pancake recipe can be prepped and put in the oven while you shower or clean. It’s one of my favorite recipes to make life a little simpler!

This is also a simple, and frugal recipe to put together (especially if you have lots of chickens/eggs) and my kids always get excited when they see me making these for breakfast.

Ingredients in German Pancake Breakfast

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup of fruit of your choice (we like peaches and blueberries)

Instructions for Making German Pancakes

Place a cast iron skillet in a 400 degree oven with 2 tablespoons of butter to melt. I use a large, 12 inch Lodge Skillet to cook mine in but you can use any pan that you can pre-heat that would be of a similar size. I also usually double this recipe and make two of these because my kids really love them!

Beat 6 eggs in a bowl.

adding flour to egg mixture

Add flour, milk, salt, vanilla, and cinnamon to eggs. Mix well.

pouring mixture into skillet

Remove cast iron skillet from the oven and pour mixture into the pan.

adding fruit to top of dutch baby batter

Add fruit to the top of the batter mixture. This is optional but it’s a great way to make this meal a little more special and I take advantage of using my home canned fruits and purees. Place into oven and bake for 20 minutes.
