Homemade Tinted Lip Gloss
Homemade makeup! Isn’t that the most exciting thing ever?
I’ve always adored makeup, but the more I look into what goes into makeup the more I don’t want to put it on my face. It’s time to look for better alternatives to make your own makeup! Lip gloss became first on my list. I used to be strictly a lipstick girl, but my lips have been so chapped lately that lip gloss is my only answer. This becomes even more so when winter comes! I almost can’t put anything on my lips except a heavy-duty moisturizing balm!
This had me thinking. What would work to not only tint, but to moisturize my lips too? My first idea was coconut oil, which is amazing, but I just ran out! Well, with baby on the way there is one moisturizer I do have – lanolin! It works wonders for the first few weeks of nursing, especially to heal the skin. Why wouldn’t it work as a lip gloss? I went to work and here is the wonderful lip gloss recipe I came up with!

What You Need:
- 2 tbs Lanolin (Where to Buy)
- 1/4 tsp Beet Powder (Where to Buy) (more or less, depending on the color you want)
- 1-3 drops Peppermint Oil (Where to Buy) (Optional)
How to make Lip Gloss:
Mix the lanolin and beet powder together. You may have to warm the lanolin just a bit to dissolve the beet powder completely. For a darker pigment lip gloss, use more powder, for a lighter shade use less. Or make one of each shade!
You can even make your own beet powder if you want to! Simply slice up beets and place them in a dehydrator. Once completely dehydrated, place in a food processor and blend until everything is in powder form! Easy peasy!
Add in Peppermint Oil, if using. This is optional, the peppermint oil adds a slight tingling feeling that will give your lips a little added plump.
Store your mixed up lip gloss in an airtight container. You can wash and reuse and old lip gloss container or purchase new ones. The travel section of most drug stores have tiny, round containers that would be perfect to hold this gloss, or you can order them online.
–Don’t have lanolin? Try making this recipe with Homemade Vaseline instead.
I love the look of this gloss! It has a subtle color with extreme shine. My lips were actually cracked and really sore when I made this, but the moment I put it on I could feel the relief!
This would make a super cute favor for a little girl’s party or even a bridal shower! You could also give it as a simple gift, add it into a gift basket or use it as a stocking stuffer.
