Looking for a new topping for chicken or stir fry? Here’s a yummy Peanut Butter Stir fry Sauce that we’ve been making and love!

Peanut Butter Stirfry Sauce on Cabbage

This is one of those recipes where I’m going to post it, and it’s going to look rather ugly, and you know what…I don’t care! We started making this creamy sauce a few weeks ago, and it’s been a favorite part of our meal rotation since then.

So, who cares about the pretty pictures? This tastes good!

Also, you are going to laugh because I don’t use peanut butter in this sauce due to allergies. We use Sunbutter (sunflower seed butter), but I promise it will work the same way with whatever you have. And also, no one searches for Sunflower Butter Stir Fry Sauce!

Peanut Butter Chicken and Rice

Why We Love This Sauce

I found a recipe for a sauce similar to this a while back, but it featured all kinds of specialty ingredients that I didn’t have or couldn’t find in my store. I’ve made my recipe based on super easy-to-get ingredients. Could you make it fancier? Absolutely. Do you need to? Not really. (See my picture above of the recipe on a FANCY paper plate. LOL.)

This recipe is perfect for those of us on a budget that loves a good sauce. We like this one because it’s just a little bit different and that makes it fun.

How to Enjoy The Peanut Butter Sauce

So far, we like this sauce recipe over fried chicken (I just do a basic batter and deep fry), along with rice and some veggies. Fried cabbage or steamed broccoli are both good and frugal choices!

  1. I am going to try it tonight. I am always looking for new allowable flavors. You know what a challenge to can be to keep the flavor and skip the allergies.

  2. The sauce has a delicious flavor but is very thin. Should it contain a thickener of some kind ? I served it over chicken and rice.

  3. Thanks for this recipe. Since developing various nut allergies as an adult, I’ve occasionally longed for the protein packed, delicious indulgence of a peanut sauce. Somehow, I never thought of making a sunflower seed butter sauce. I can’t wait to try it, and will this week as long as my father -in-law’s surgery goes as planned.

    1. It’s so great with sunbutter! (and thankfully doesn’t turn green like some things do when made with sunbutter) I hope you enjoy it!
