Do you want to get a delicious pizza meal on the table in less than 30 minutes without having to buy a prepared crust? This 30 Minute Pizza is for you!
The 30 Minute Pizza – Easy Homemade Pizza Dough
Do you ever run into this problem? You know that you need to get a meal on the table, but before you know it, it’s almost dinner time. You know you still want to whip up something delicious with what you have in your pantry, so what do you do?
Several years ago, there was a night when I promised my husband I would make pizza for dinner. After a busy day, I looked up at the clock and realized that it was already 5:30 pm and I knew we had to leave at 6:30 pm.
I opened the fridge and looked at the things I could warm up for supper, but then I remembered that I had promised him pizza…and that’s his favorite! Thus, the 30-minute pizza was born and became a simple go-to meal for us for many years.
I hope that you enjoy it as much as we did! Unlike other “quick pizza recipes,” this pizza dough recipe is still 100% from scratch, so you can use what you have in your pantry and not have to buy a prepared crust.
Ingredients in the 30-Minute Pizza Dough
- Warm Water. Make sure it’s warm but not hot. Too hot will kill your yeast, and you need it to be perfectly activated!
- Yeast. I typically use Instant Yeast or Active Dry Yeast.
- Sugar. This is only to help feed the yeast and get it to re-activate faster.
- All Purpose Flour. I’ve only tried this recipe with regular flour and gluten-free flour but whole wheat flour as well.
- Salt. This will give your crust a bit of flavor.
- Olive Oil. This helps you be able to stretch the dough and gives it a better color after baking. You can use a different kind of vegetable oil if that’s all you have on hand.
- Mayo. (optional) – Here’s how to make a Homemade Mayo Recipe. This is only if you want to make a quick “white” pizza. It’s tangy and so good!
- Mozzarella Cheese. Here’s how to make 30 Minute Homemade Mozzarella Cheese. You can use a different kind of cheese as well.
- Toppings & Sauce. Use Homemade Pizza Sauce and any of your favorite pizza toppings such as pepperoni, mushrooms, pineapple, ham, olives, bell peppers, bbq chicken, etc.
Instructions for How to Make a Pizza in 30 Minutes from Scratch
In a large bowl, mix together the warm water, yeast, and sugar.
Let it sit while you are mixing together the flour, olive oil, and salt. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture.
Knead for about 2 minutes on a lightly floured surface until the dough gets smoother. Roll out to about a 12-inch circle or square and place on a pizza pan in a warm place. (I like to set it up on top my pre-heating stove.) I love to use a good Pizza Stone for making our pizzas. They cook a pizza so perfectly!
While you are getting out the toppings, cover the dough and let it rise just a bit. Preheat the oven to 375F.
The dough should look a little puffy when it has risen for about 5 minutes. Stick it in the oven for about 5-6 minutes. Then take it out and spread the mayo on the top (I know it sounds a little different but trust me on this one! It’s like a yummy white sauce with a little kick.)
If the idea of the mayo scares you a bit, go for a traditional Homemade Pizza Sauce recipe or even throw together some tomatoes and a few spices in a blender.
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese (bonus points if you’ve even made your own Homemade Mozzarella) on top of that. You could also add cooked chicken, tomatoes, or whatever other toppings you like. Stick it back in the oven and back until the crust and the cheese is browned on the top. Enjoy!

Question: A TABLESPOON of yeast? Isn’t that quite a lot for just 2 cups flour? Thought I’d double check with ya before I waste the flour, thanks!
A tablespoon is correct. That’s what make sit rise so fast.
